Workshop: Stop Talking & Start Influencing
Date: November
26, 2001
Time: 7pm
¡V 9pm
- an participative workshop led by
Philip Lai, ATM-B, President of TGIT Toastmasters Club on acquiring and
developing one's influencing skills
The ability to
influence others, as opposed to controlling them, has become a critical
leadership competency nowadays. As
organizations are becoming leaner and, at the same time, flatter, the more
important it is for leaders to lead and manage without much formal power. In this workshop, focus will be given
to the practical aspect of acquiring influencing skills by surveying the key
change models that are proven effective in inducing changes in others. Opportunity to practice will also be
provided to enhance learning.
Duration:
Jan 7, 2002 to Mar 18, 2002

Saturday afternoons 2:30 to 4:30
Start from Nov 24
8 sessions, 4 before X'mas, we will take 1 to 2
weeks break at X'mas time and re-start the 2nd 4 sessions from 2002/01/05.
We may rent a room at Academy of Performing Arts
(supposedly higher quality) or Empire Hotel (cheaper rental), or somewhere in
Wanchai/Admiralty.
Assuming we have 12-20 persons in a class, it
takes about $1000-1600 for each participants for the whole 8 lessons. So, if we can get more friends to join
in, we can share a smaller amount of the fee, but I would suggest to limit the
size within 20 persons.
ü
Introduce the
principles of healthy vocal use, through exercises;
ü
Verse
speaking as poetic texts provided a medium for us, then we can focus on the
elements of relaxation, concentration, imagination, breath, resonance,
articulation and pronunciation as parts of an effective process of
communication;
ü
Basic skills
of interpretive work, focusing more on voice production and speech;
ü
Introduce
specific styles of writing, and particular poets, as well as covering the
technical skills related to speaking texts, thus to cover all elements of good
speech in working on the selected texts.
